Thank You!

I hadn't intended to announce that I'm pregnant and then go silent for almost a week, I just got so overwhelmed by all the beautiful and supportive comments that were rolling in that I couldn't help but want to keep that post at the top of my blog for as long as possible! Thank you one million times to everyone who left a comment, sent an e-mail, messaged me on facebook, ravelry, twitter... Chris and I feel so loved!

So, things are definitely changing around here, and I couldn't be happier about it. Yesterday we went for a nice long walk, it was a beautiful fall day, and as I was admiring our gorgeous colourful foliage I thought about change. I used to think that I hated change. When I was 10 my family moved and I did not cope well. But now, I think I've come around to embracing change, and even looking forward to it. I look forward to the seasons changing every year, I can't wait to watch my belly change into a giant, baby-filled balloon! Now our family is changing, growing, and with that our family business will naturally change as well, but I'm excited about it. Chris and I have always known that we wanted a family, and as we made decisions about TFA, things like: do we try and go big, or do we stay small? do we rent a studio space, or do we build a small studio in our backyard? we always kept our future family plans in mind.

So now I think TFA is ready for this awesome new change. I am sure that there will be some growing pains along the way, this summer was a bit of a preview of that. My first trimester was pretty good, but I was exhausted and queasy pretty much all the time, which made work much more of an effort than it usually is. But, we made it through, and now I'm in my second trimester and am feeling much less queasy and a bit more energetic. Chris and I are totally committed to TFA, it's our life! Some things may change (has anyone noticed that we haven't had an Etsy update in months? Yeah, our free experimental dyeing time is nowhere to be found!) but the beauty of TFA is that it's flexible, we can make this work.

Now here's the big ticket question, the thing that everyone wants to know: So much baby knitting to do! Do we know if we're having a girl or a boy? Are we planning on finding out?

The answer.... no! After much back and forth Chris and I have decided that we're going to keep the gender of the baby a surprise. I always thought that I would definitely want to know, but then when I found out that we were expecting, I suddenly no longer cared. We hope for a healthy baby and we have no gender preference at all. Lets be honest, this baby will be wearing a lot of blue regardless of wether it's a boy or a girl!

  1. Blue's are great, always in style, match anything and everything, not to mention the delux yarns.
This baby won't know how good it has it for a while, but then again why would you not make a cashmere shawl for your 1st baby.
So will you be designing another baby shawl??

  2. Your post made me smile today :-)

I'm glad that the morning sickness is wearing off and that your getting more energy. I know as soon as I hit my second timester I had bounds of energy. Occasionally I get tired and take an afternoon nap. But hey, I would rather have the occasional bout of fatigue then morning sickness. I'm so happy for you :-)

I can't wait to see what else you knit for your WIP in progress :-)

Oh, and I loved knitted blankets for my kiddos, they are so cuddly and easy to tuck around a baby.

  7. So exciting! It is great that you are loving and embracing change.. Right now I have a big, 38 week, baby-filled balloon and have learned that you hear the same questions and phrases so many times, one of them being, "Life as you know it is about to change in a BIG way!". Ha ha, people love to say that to us first-time pregnant ladies! :) The changes definitely start in the first trimester, and the changes to come are so exciting! Can't wait to see all of your baby knitting. :)

  8. Great news, glad you're getting to enjoy it a bit more now your body isn't trying as hard to sabotage your time ;)

I'm a little ahead of you with my first, and I'm totally with you. I'm expecting a (hopefully) healthy Human Child, which will be loved for who they are and will become. There's a lifetime of expectations to deal with waiting for them, and I'm not prepared to start that already before it's even born. Besides, I don't really care for baby blue or pink...

    Enjoy every minute!

  11. Wonderful news! We were admiring the baby darling 'helping' at the KW Knitters Fair. So nice you are expecting! Lucky couple and lucky baby. You need to have 'the talk' with Stella.

  12. When I had my son and then my daughter, I loved dressing them in all colors. You have such an incredible eye for color that it would be a shame if your wee one was limited to only gender-defined shades. Enjoy and embrace the rainbow! ; )

  14. I think that is wonderful! That is what we're doing too. I've always thought that this is probably one of the few things that adults can be truly surprised by in life and I like that. Congrats again!

  15. oh my gosh, Congrats!!!!! I've not been stalking blogs much lately as my youngest started kindergarten and my oldest is now a Freshman in high school (eep when did that happen?) I'm so happy for you, I don't have any babies in my near future but some day I will have a chest of gorgeous handknits for some grand babies - A long, Long, Loooong time from now ;) I wish you all the best!

  16. First I thought too I don't want to know the gender of my little one, but then I got weak ;) But as you never can be sure (doctors make mistakes too), I'm sticking to 'neutral' colors. Unfortunately it's difficult to find baby clothes which are not blue or red/pink. I am so glad I have that lovely sprout colorway from the TFA Year in Color Club which is 'transformed' into a Sunnyside Cardigan right now - and I really enjoy knitting those baby clothes for myself (and not just for others like before.
